Who controls Pittsburgh now?  Based on a quick view of your latest map I'm not sure, but I imagine you (Leif) would have indicated it if the north had liberated it.  My guess is that will happen in your next update.

It looks at this point as we'd be on the German side, although with the Populists in power (albiet with some ex-Liberals who presumably supported the German alliance in the Government) our relationship with the "Second Reich" might become strained.

I'm surprised Britain would gain anything, even from the Ottomans, after losing the war.  Did the Ottomans not make any gains after the Brits diverted troops to France for that failed offensive?

Also, why did Romania join the war on the Allied side?  Was there a successful or semi-successful Russian offensive like the Brusilov Offensive in OTL, that led them to attack Transilvania in Austria-Hungary.  Were the Bulgarians neutral at the time Romania joined the Entente side, as in OTL?

Also, did America invade Provence (in southeastern France) from Italy, which our troops were allowed to enter even though Italy was officially (and you say genuinely) neutral?

I think this has been an awesome TL, but I noticed more things that made me go "huh?" in your last two update posts than usual.  Perhaps you can explain them and your explanation can become part of the timeline without being it's own installment, in that they add to the main updates like many of your answers to people's questions.

Also, does Alaska have the same boundaries as modern-day Alaska in OTL?  Do we have the entire OTL Yukon Territory and British Columbia, and not an inch of OTL Alaska around Juneau?  I know the Boundary between Alaska and Canada was disputed for awhile in OTL, and a compromise was eventually arrived at, so perhaps the British claim can be researched (I'm not volunteering, but it might be on Wikipedia) and that is what the boudary will be, the U.S. haveing just won a war with Britain and the two nations being reversed as far as what side of the Alaska border they will control.  But if you want to use the OTL boundary of Alaska I can't fault you?  Timeline update beggers (although I haven't done that, except for mayby once) can't be choosers, right?

Hmm, looks like Verily and I expected the Ottomans to be treated in opposite ways.  Perhaps the gains of some Greek Islands and Cyprus were to compensate the Ottomans for the loss of Palestine and the Kuwait-? (I forget) area.  Greece would be an even smaller fry then the Ottomans, likely, and they might have joined the war on the Allied side in this TL (as they might have eventually in OTL, and had Allied troops fighting Bulgarians there while they were still officially neutral).

Your map on page 26 (I should have mentioned this earlier) seems to have France gaining Alsace-Lorraine or Alsase-Moselle (although it is under German de facto control along with other territory along France's northeastern border) rather than losing the remainder of Lorraine as you had said in the previous page.  That map is far enough back and the various regions of France would be small enough on it that I can understand if you don't want to update your map.  But are Nancy and Épinal and Verdun now (in the 1920s) de jure part of Germany.  If not, are they under German de facto control.  What about Belfort?  You mentioned the Meuse-Seine line as the boundary of France's required demilitarization apart from what was lost to Germany de jure, but I just thought I'd clarify what in general Germany formally gained from France.

Anyway, great update (your last one).  Has Mustafa Kemal take the additional name Atatürk as in OTL?  Will/has the Republic of Turkey lose/lost any territory, officially or effectively, from the postwar Ottoman Empire (with Kemal taking over in Istanbul the Turkish army might not have been able to quell or even contain rebellions in outlying areas, although that may change as Turkey's modernization is put to work on it's army and the Turkish people see enough internal improvements that they are willing to support what might have earlier been seen as foreign expeditions within the boundaries of an old empire).

The next Royal Council elections should be interesting, particularly in the south where the Populists will face their first electoral test since their disappointing Senate election.

Keep up the GREAT work Leif.

One reason I'll probably never do a timeline is I wouldn't want people pestering me to update it all the time.  We should all be patient and be greatful for all the great installments we have already read.

Btw, how's it coming on that update, Leif?  Cheesy

Based on the Irish-American defensive pact, it will probably quickly turn in to an Anglo-American war as well.

The different spheres of influence and at least three groups of countries in Europe that don't or probably don't each other in (four if there's animosity between Labourite Britain and Soviet Hungary, although Britain may not have any other European contries in its orbit and might form a tacit or formal alliance with Hungary out of having mutual enemies and complementing each other in wars against the Americo-German and fascist pacts) is very interesting, moreso than the pre-WWII situation in OTL IMHO.  Does Britain still have decent naval strength (I remember reading Germany became the leading naval power after the last big war).  Will there be some early territory changes shortly before and during the next big conflict that I suspect is coming like there were before World War II in OTL.  Hungary's seizure of land from Serbia would count if the war doesn't start more than say, 7 years after the end of that war or if pre-collossal war tension doesn't abate before such a war finally breaks out.

Maybe to make his timeline read like an American living in the timeline would see it, Lief's going to mostly ignore the Middle East until after the next big war as most Americans and the U.S. Government seemed to (at least the people in it) in OTL, and then still largely ignore it for decades while dealing with a post-war threat before the thread starts to really mention specifics there on a regular basis.

While not quite the Middle East, given the historical relations in OTL between the United States and Morocco. I could easily see Morocco being a U.S. ally as they try to keep from being gobbled up by the perfidious French and Spanish.

You mean in this time line, right?  I think OTL means "our time line," the one we're living in reading this thread.  ATL (for "alternate time line") is sometimes used to describe the fictional time line being detailed.  Was there a strong connection in real life between the U.S. and what is now Morrocco before where we are now in this timeline (three days after Easter Sunday in 1941)?

I hadn't been aware of us having had strong ties with Morrocco before 1940 in real life (about where we are now in this timeline).  I don't know everything, though.

Are you still planning on finishing this timeline in 2010 or so (in the timeline) by the end of the summer?

It's two days before the beginning of autumn.  I'm sure we won't get to 2010 by then but seeing how the coming global broohaha turns out would be nice, if you are planning on finishing this timeline by the end of summer.  Or is it already finished?

Leif told me a month and a half ago (I PMed him as I was getting impatient too) that he's been working on it, but that the background maps he's been using are at home and he won't be home from college until December.  I got the sense from his e-mail that he'll at least get us through the Anglo-Irish War (which I suspect will become another world war as America has a defense pact with Ireland and has some powerful allies (Germany and I believe Russia, it's been a while) and some potential enemies in the Soviet (Hungarian) and fascist blocs).  I suspect the thread will be finished by the time he starts the spring semester.  Leif could tell you better than I, though.

Only 2 more days until the next update!

Is part of France still dimilitarized (at least without French troops)?  Did the German army occupy that territory after the treaty ending the last big war or did it become like the OTL Rhineland for much of inter-war Germany?  What is it's status now?

I hope these questions don't cause a delay in your timeline.  You've done a good job of tying things together on this thread so far, so I'm sure that will continue.  I've enjoyed this timeline very much and am looking forward to more.

Horray!  The timeline is back!

Will Germany come to our (the United States's) aid?  Do they have a decent navy now?  I forget what other allies we have in Europe.  Is Russia on better terms with the U.S. or with Britain?  What about Russia's relations with Germany (which I know has great influence over several new states from the Great War that border Russia) and Japan?

What's the scoop on Portugal at the present time (in your timeline, so the late 50s)?  (And could you give a brief rundown on its history?)  Is/has António de Oliveira Salazar reigning/reigned as dictator?  Is Portugal alligned with the Tripartite Pact (Italy, France and Spain).  Btw, could someone tell me what relations were like in OTL between the Estado Novo (Salazar's Portugal) and the Tripartite Pact nations and Spain?  What about Britain and France?  I know Portugal didn't enter WWII as they did WWI, even though  the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance signed in 1373 is still in force according to Wikipedia.

Is Germany largely a puppet state of France as suggested in your last world map or has Italian influence grown since Italian troops put down the German revolution?  What if any efforts did Hungary engage in during that uprising?  I'll have to look back to see whether the revolutionaries were communists (or at least not anti-authoritarian socialists) or of a liberal democratic nature (in which case Hungary might not have seen them as worth provoking the fascist alliance.  How are relations between Italy, France and Spain and any other not clearly puppet regimes largely alligned with them?
