What if the Nixon scandals were released in '72 and he decided not to run for re-election and Agnew won the nomination? Also, what would EV maps look like?

I'd vote McGovern but Agnew would win obviously.

Yes, but he failed to carry it against Nixon in '72.

Yea, I was kind of guessing here anyway.

I doubt Vermont would have gone for McGovern seeing as it went for Ford in 1976

Yes, at that time it had only gone to the Democrats once since 1892 and that was in 1964 in the Johnson landslide. Vermont didn't even go for Roosevelt.

Liberty's right. Before 1992, Vermont was actually a Republican stronghold.

McGovern still did pretty well in South Dakota.  It was his fourth best state I believe (After MA, Rhode Island, and Minnesota).  I think he could have won New York too without Nixon as his opponent (homestate advantage).

Giving McGovern every state that he got at least 40% in, looks like this:

Nixon was only registered in New York in 1968. In 1952, 1956, 1960 and 1972, he was registered in California.

McGovern deserved to win all 50 states. He is a total hero. One amazing American. There's a man that makes me proud to be a Democrat.
