I know that this Timeline has been over for a while but I want to know who the Senators in the present day would be in this TL.  I know thats a big load but I've been really wondering alot.

I'd still like to know this PBrunsel, including like how the Senators are different from RL.

This, and of course Nixon the Friend, were the most epic TL I've ever read

Wow, PB I just spent most of the day rereading through this epic timeline, and I just wanted to say Job Well Done. However, I am left to thinking why you abandoned Iowa Governor Nile Kinnick for President? You seemed to have been set him up for President in either the 50's or '60's but decided to go the route of Nixom instead? I think that would have made the timeline even more president, having none of the Presidents elected from 1932 onwards becoming President. You have any plans on any new Timelines?

No kidding. After I finish Bush wins in 1992, (I'm still working on it, update will come soon) I may do a timeline in which The USA joins the League of Nations, which may be a bit similar to PBrunsel's.

I hope he still at least reads the forum. Maybe he got involved in local politics?

Perhaps, although it does contain an implausibility or two...or three. The following are such examples:

- The Third Reich engages in a four year war with the Soviet Union between 1943 and 1947. Yet when war breaks out in 1954, due to the idiocracy of Hermann Fegelein, it takes the Soviets a mere four to six months to defeat the fledgling regime. Did I also mention a Cold War, despite the alternate course of history would have ensued between the United States and the Soviets.

- Prime Minister Halifax appeasing the Third Reich to such an extent that Ireland becomes united by 1942 (well, I had to include an Irishwank in there didn't I?). Not to mention the British surrendering their remaining colonies throughout the world, although that seems somewhat plausible since they began doing such during the RL premiership of Clement Atlee.

- The course of Australian politics remaining on par until the 1940 General Election, in which John Curtin manages to defeat Robert Menzies' in TTL, due to the war. If anything, it would have changed immediately if no Great Depression ensues in the late 1920s. Thus, no UAP is formed in 1931 (me thinks) between members of the Nationalists and concerned Labourites such as Joe Lyons. Sure the Nationalists, led by John Latham in TTL would defeat Scullin their lack of progress on the economic front would result in the election of a rejuvenated Labor Party led by Joe Lyons. A lot of possibilities there.

- The Second World War occurs. If President Hoover was an ardent supporter of the Weimar Republic and convinced the British and French to pay off war reparations ten they could very wel have survived. But other factors would have needed to occur. For example the election of General Lettow-Vorbeck! or more realistically the survival of German Foreign Minister Gustav Stresemann (an excellent timeline on Alternate History Discussion).

I'd dare say there would be plenty more, such as President Lowden, Kennedy and Harriman, etc. Questions or comments?

Haha, that timeline wasn't so great after all, was it Conor? Some of the changes weren't butterfly, just random. (Halifax?) But it was fun. Smiley

Haha, that timeline wasn't so great after all, was it Conor?

Indeed it was not, hence my reasoning's for not restarting it. But, I can be agreed Xahar that it was fun while it lasted, and better than some other timelines around at the time, for example TR wins in 1912, especially after the war between the US and USSR in 1964 over Israel (sorry Ben) and one of Garrison's many timelines. My sincerest apologies to those that liked it.

Some of the changes weren't butterfly, just random. (Halifax?)

I don't know what I was thinking. Especially since I was trying to mold it around those who I planned to become President in the timeline's due course. Note to self, never, never do it again. Nor be influenced by Richard Harris' Fatherland, hence the rise of Joseph P. Kennedy as President (ha!) and the survival of the Third Reich. Looking back on it now, butterflies could have resulted in Trotsky leading the Soviet Union!

Anywho, here's a list of Presidents for the timeline:

29. Herbert Hoover (R-CA): 1921-1929
30. Frank Lowden (R-IL): 1929-19331
31. Newton Baker (D-OH): 1933-1937
32. Joseph P. Kennedy (D-MA): 1937-19452
33. Wendell Willkie (R-NY): 1945-1953
34. Averell Harriman (D-NY): 1953-1961
35. Ronald Reagan (D-CA): 1961-1965
36. Nelson Rockefeller (R-NY): 1965-1973
37. John Connally (D-TX): 1973-1978
38. John Ashbrook (D-OH): 1978-1981
39. Mark Hatfield (R-OR): 1981-1989
40. Gary Hart (R-CO): 1989-1993
41. Jack Kemp (D-NY): 1993-2001
42. Colin Powell (R-NY): 2001-2009
43. Hillary Rodham (D-IL): 2009-Present

Notes

1: Probably would have been replaced with a Hooverite, most likely then Representative Fiorello H. La Guardia of New York. Would have been a staunch internationalist, continuation of aid to the Weimar Republic, etc. On the domestic front, President La Guardia attempted to expand the New Deal agenda only to cause much controversy, consequently losing to Newton D. Baker in November 1932.

2: I had two options for this. Firstly, Governor Kennedy still would have been selected by Baker as his running mate in 1932, only to assume the presidency upon his death in December 1937 continue his conservative legacy while President. Scandal would later engulf the Kennedy White House, revelations of links to the Mafia or extramarital affair, etc and consequently resign or be impeached by the Congress in August 1943. Secondly, FDR, whom is a conservative in this timeline joins Baker on the ticket, becomes President and oversees the war effort against Japan. Oh wait, that actually didn't happen...

For example: Blanche Lincoln and especially Mark Warner never becoming President of the United States, despite his fellow Virginians Claude Swanson and John Warner gracing the halls of the White House. How very disappointed in you I was because of it Wink.

I like Ben's timelines because he chooses some relatively obscure people to become President. Hearnes? Mike O'Callaghan? I find that fascinating.
