I'm relieved, and a bit surprised, to learn that MacArthur has been President for four whole years and the country is still intact.
Or at least intact enough that he was reelected.

Wonderful update, though I was really pulling for Dewey. Your Dewey would have been one of my favorite Presidents. Then again, in your timeline, it appears I would be an ardent Republican. Smiley

Yes, the parties seem to have switched places. Wink

Presidents Nixon and Kryuchkov drink a ceremonial bottle of Champaign.

Champagne.

Event Date: 2-09-1970
Event Description: In a Rose Garden ceremony, President Nixon awards the crew of Apollo V, Charles Bassett, Eliot See and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. “You showed the world that for America, even the stars are not the limit,” President Nixon says as he pins the medals on the four brave astronauts.

Four?

Thank you everyone for the comments. 1972 will have wide open races, which isn't really very odd in this timeline. In fact, I can only think of 1964 where and incumbent Vice-President (in this timeline) sought their party's nomination.

P.S. Oh come on Xahar. I feel like I'm in in stinking English class. This isn't going up for a grade. If it was I'd probably get an "F" for not following the formal way of writing a story. Smiley

Sorry, but it's hard to resist. Undecided

Xahar,

Albert Gore, Senior, was a Senator from Tennessee (1953-1963). He was appointed to the Vice-Presidency by President Joseph P. Kennedy, Junior, in May 1963 upon the assassination of Stuart Symington. Vice-President Gore ran for the 1964 Democratic presidential nomination, but lost it to Senator Barry Goldwater.

Al Gore, Clinton's veep in real life, worked as an infantryman and field reporter during the Russo-Chinese War. He was wounded twice by enemy fire and received the Purple Heart twice. In 1973, he is working as a report for the Nashville Star and preparing to run for Congress in 1974 as a conservative Democrat. The 26-year old reporter is expected to easily win his father's old congressional seat, TN-4.

Did Gore Senior return to the Senate, or did he retire?

And I find it interesting that Gore Junior is a conservative Democrat. The Gores were always quite liberal, especially as Southern Democrats go.

Though not a veteran of the Russo-Chinese War, Bakersfield, California, attorney William J. Clinton is elected to the California State House, hoping to build his political career up as time goes on.

Nitpick: California has a State Assembly.

This Bush is quite liberal enough for me, but too much of a warmonger.

DC going Democratic? I don't see it.

I have no skills in making maps, so I can't do that Xahar. This war is comprised of two sides:

Iraq and Syra

vs.

The Toronto Pact (mostly USA, UK, Canada), Israel and Egypt

My attempt.
