Welcome to the Department of External Affairs (DEA)

This is the thread in which the Secretary of External Affairs (ie; me) will issue statements, press releases and so on and so forth. Members of the public (including elected officials) may also post questions, complaints and so on here.

Etc, etc, etc.

Congratulations on the appointment Al.

I take it that image is from either Yes, Minister or Yes, Prime Minister. I'm not sure which one though.

STATEMENT ON RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN PAKISTAN

I would like to state that I am worried by recent developments. It would be wrong to comment further until more information reaches us, but I feel that it is important to make public the concerns of the Atlasian Government over recent events.

Now that I know more... I would like to say, on behalf of the Atlasian Government, that the actions of President Musharraf are nothing short of a disgrace.

The DEA's foreign policy review has been suspended pending further developments in Pakistan.

On behalf of the Government of Atlasia, I would like to condemn, in the strongest terms possible, the assassination of former Pakistan P.M. Benazir Bhutto.

Kenya statement:

We have "concerns" over the conduct of the recent election and are worried about the "security situation". Oh, and a message to all Atlasians; please don't go to Kenya unless it's urgent. Thankee.

DEAF-PR has begun. As far as I am aware this remains current Atlasian policy. It's now two years out of date.

This review will be total and will, at best, take several days. Comments on the draft proposals (when they are published) will be welcome.

Short and unfortunate announcement: due to ill health I'm taking a leave of absence from my work here and won't return for at least a week. If the President needs someone active at the DEA, I won't complain if I am dismissed and replaced by someone else. If that happens, then I will send my notes on DEAF-PR to whoever replaces me.

DEAF Policy Review. First Draft (comments wanted. There's probably a lot of important stuff I've missed). Part I, Europe. Note that "normal" means normal relations, no restrictions. It is to be the general policy of the DEA that normal relations are to exist unless there are very good reasons for this not to be the case. When important changes to policy have been made they have usually been noted.

Albania: normal, but we have concerns over corruption and the weakness of the democratic process. The policy of supporting Albanian Nationalism is no longer in force.
Andorra: from Monday, the Republic of Atlasia with be at war with Andorra.
Armenia: serious concerns over a whole range of issues. Partial restrictions.
Austria: normal
Azerbaijan: Azerbaijan is a dictatorship. Full restrictions.
Belarus: Belarus is a dictatorship. Full restrictions.
Belgium: normal, but we have concerns about the growth of seperatism.
Bosnia & Herzegovina: as last policy review
Bulgaria: normal
Croatia: normal
Czech Republic: normal
Denmark: normal
Estonia: normal
Finland: normal
France: normal
Georgia: no restrictions, but we need to know more about what be going on right now. Cough. Cough. Hint. Hint.
Germany: normal
Greece: normal
Hungary: normal
Iceland: normal
Ireland: normal
Italy: normal, but we have concerns about media freedom, corruption and organised crime. Much of this involves just one dangerous, corrupt meglomaniac (and it is official Atlasian policy to label Mr Berlusconi as such).
Latvia: normal, but we have serious concerns about the treatment of the Russian minority.
Liechtenstein: belongs to Atlasia and always has done. We want it back, or there will be trouble.
Lithuania: normal
Luxembourg: normal
Macedonia: normal, concerns about political stability
Moldova: normal, but we have concerns about media freedom.
Monaco: a gunship is right outside the bloody place right now and awaits my orders.
Montenegro: normal
Netherlands: normal
Norway: normal
Poland: normal
Portugal: normal
Romania: normal
Russia: Russia is a dictatorship. Full restrictions.
San Marino: bombing will begin in 48 hours.
Serbia: serious concerns about rather a lot of things but restrictions would be counter-productive. An update soon.
Slovakia, normal, but we have concerns about the treatment of the Roma people.
Slovenia: normal
Sweden: normal
Switzerland: normal
Turkey: normal, concerns exist about treatment of Kurds, we are pleased that the will of the people was accepted by certain groups within the state last year, and we support it joining the E.U.
Ukraine: normal, but we have concerns about political stability, corruption and so on and so forth.
United Kingdom: normal
Vatican City: normal (well, as normal as can be).

Not as part of this (which is a general set of policy guidelines rather than anything more detailed), but the general view is that it is "unfortunate".

And someone noticed the other little treasures!

The remarks about the four microstates are, of course, jokes and will be removed in the next draft. Just wanted to find out if anyone was reading this thing...
