Maybe he could become an independent and get the Dems to stay out of the race. That sounds like his only chance.

Oh, I think he could potentially win a GOP primary.  It's not like he's a RINO or anything.
Yes, he is. Just not as in "a democrat who claims to be a Republican". Wink Frankly, I think he can't win a Republican primary if the field has been cleared for a main challenger.
But a general election without a Democrat... that should be easier. Still uphill obviously, but easier.
