I heard a the news report today about North Korea acquiring the technology to fire sea-borne nuclear missiles that could strike anywhere in the US when launced from a submarine or a ship.

And Iraq was this big threat, huh?  They couldn't import a rubber band to make a slingshot with the sanctions we had on them for the last ten years.  Ay carumba!

Has anyone else heard this story?

I'd be amazed to see North Korea get a nuclear submarine or ship past..say..Okinawa before we detected them and had planes in the air (luckily we have an airbase in Okinawa).

Either way, we can't invade North Korea.   It has so many lovely mountains and a million-man standing army with decent technology (MIGs, tanks, etc.).

Correct.

Nonetheless, I think we unnecessarily provoked them into accelerating their nuclear program and have been too uncompromising in negotitations to end that program.  Not to make excuses for Kim Jong-il, he's pond scum, but the problem could have been mitigated.

Something should be done about North Korea. They are a far bigger threat to the world than the likes of Iran or Syria. I just don't trust them at all, they're so unpredictable.

I sort of felt that Saddam Hussein belonged in the "rational dictator" catagory while Kim falls into the opposite one with his massive Daffy Duck collections combined with gulags and nuclear missiles.

Yes, we need to do something.  A coup would make sense if we could hide the American involvement.
