It was never 'economic populism' (however defined) that won elections, but the promise of something better.

For the vast majority of people it's the same thing.

Leftist nationalism is not unthinkable and Chavez could be a good example but Napoleon? Do you think that the French Emperor and hero of Austerlitz was a leftist in any sense? Come on. I think that you are right when you say that cosmopolitanism and globalism are unpopular but your proposed alternative will be a complete failure. When the leftist parties have tried to adopt the nationalist speech of the far-right, at least until a certain point, it has never worked because people tend to prefer the original to the copies.

The SFIO supported the Algerian War, but it got utterly destroyed in the process and it would take decades for the French socialist left to rebuild fully, at all levels, from the disaster wraught on the party by Mollet and the Algerian kerfuffle. Besides, there was little far-right rah rah rah nationalism in the reasons for the SFIO's support of the Algerian War. We're also assuming that the SFIO in the 1950s can count as a 'left-wing party' to begin with...

I know that you're in love with Marion Panzergirl and have bought into her latest scam fully, but yeah, the party which wanted to do away with the ISF and hated the progressive income tax until a few years ago is really a populist leftist party!

The PCF under Georges Marchais in the 1980s tried to adopt your prescribed strategy by participating into some fairly disgusting race-baiting and xenophobia which would've given the FN a run for its money, but it did nothing to help them out (far from it!)

And Napoleon a leftist? Jesus Tapdancing Christ. Stop trolling. You're a real self-parody. I would suggest you calm down and read a book.
