Aside from the contrived scenario and her terrible acting, even the metaphor represents a horrible concept: who exactly paid for all those gifts she's so generously giving away?

Even the "Happy Holidays" splash near the end had no cheer to it.

That is a truly wretched ad.

I can see one of her opponents running a counter ad in January with Joe Sixpack agonizing over how to pay the bills for all those "gifts."

Oh, no- her opponents will spend more. This is corny, but it'll be effective. Despite its phoniness, it should appeal to the Democratic base. The promises are pretty direct; no nuance on Iraq or health care. She aims to give it.

I disagree; this ad is far too saccharin for people to take it seriously. It looks more like a mock political advertisement than anything else. Giuliani had a similarly awful one (something about NINE-ELEVEN, oh and Santa, too).

By contrast, Huckabee did a very good job with his Christmas ad. Not that I agree with it, but it played his message well without being sappy or fake.

You mean that was a real ad?  I thought it was something off of Saturday Night Live.

As far as holiday ads go I think they're all stupid and contrived and the fact that we even have to submit to their wretched awfulness is yet more proof that our primary system is broken.  We shouldn't even be seeing any ads before Jan 1st of the year the general takes place.

However, I think this is a good ad for Clinton in that it shows a softer feminine side (wrapping packages) in contrast to the cold and calculated side most people see.  It also clearly lays out what her platform is.  But as I said earlier, all holiday campaign ads are sickening by simply existing.

It looks like something you would see on MAD TV or Saturday Night Live.

God help us if she wins the presidency.

God help us if she wins the presidency.

It could be a claim for Mike Huckabee

No argument from me. Romney is the only Republican that I think would be somewhat decent, although I prefer Obama and Gore by a much larger degree.

I wish Gore would run instead of hunt for ManBearPig.

Yeah, ditto. I mean, most political ads are dumb but this took the cake. It might just go down in history as the symbolic moment when Hillary's campaign began to fell apart, like the Dean Scream or Bob Dole falling off that stage. Or John Kerry trying to be Joe Sixpack, watching the Super Bowl with his family, feet on the table and sipping on his beer like a little girl scout - I didn't so much cringe as curl up into a ball and whimper when I saw that. I got the same feeling watching that Hillary ad; except in this case I feel rather relieved at this little act of unintentional self-sabotage.

Wow, that's dumb. I love how she "looks" for the "present" which is right in front of her so she deliberately looks off to the side. Awful awful.
