Virginia won't be up for grabs because Huckabee would not be competitive there.

Exactly. Some states would be just be considered "blue". Places like Nevada and Wisconsin come to mind.

I love how now so many believe WV has become such a GOP stronghold that it's even safer than states where Bush even got a higher percentage.

Its not that its a stronghold, its that its a place that's pretty well suited to Huckabee and not very well suited for a woman or an African American who have essentially no moderate positions.

Yeah. Though McCain v. Clinton might make it pretty interesting...

Yeah, I'm sure they'll love Huckabee's national sales tax.

Agreed.  Huckabee would be flat out massacred in Northern Virginia, and he would bring Davis (who is in enough trouble as it is) down with him.

I hate the FairTax, but it does include a rebate that makes it more attractive to lower income Americans than most sales tax proposals.

What they'll really like is the populist rhetoric and focus on cultural issues.

Arizona, West Virginia, Virginia, maybe Kentucky.

Montana should be on the list, especially if Texas is.

Virginia seems to be a slaughterhouse for the GOP this year.

Huckabee should win all these states, though I suppose he could lose Virginia, West Virginia, or Arizona.  I don't see how he is much different in his sources of support from GW or any other religious candidate.

I think Huckabee wins these states in the end, though possibly has to spend more time shoring up the base there.  Remember, evangelicals are only a portion of the Republican base, even in the South.  Plenty of country-club conservatives who care more about keeping taxes low and the government small will need a lot of convincing to vote for Huckabee.

I think Huckabee would, however, lose badly in the Northeast (where Bush at least had a chance in New Hampshire and Maine) and in the marginal Western states that Clinton carried.  And a third-party libertarian run could muck with Montana or Wyoming.

So, this is what the map would look like

Huckabee v. Any Big Three Democrat

Yeah, and maybe Missouri could go Democratic as well.

I'm not sure why people think the south will vote against Huckabee, rather than give him an even stronger percentage of the vote than most Republicans.

That populist garbage is going to play well down there.  Real well.

(Not so well in the purple states the dude needs to win, but I digress.)
