Which Governor or which Governors currently in office would make a good President?

State why if you wish.

Please discuss.

I would say Richardson but I am going to go to someone who isnt running...

Arnold The Governator

The fact that he is moderate and would hopefully steer the Republicans in a new direction would make him a great president in my mind.

he'd never make it through the primaries. america's mayor is getting derailed by the chief preacher of arkansas.

he's pro-choice and pro-gay rights! sure, he'd win a general election, but no one in my party seems to care about that right now. i hope it changes.

My personal choice, Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina.

Successful and proven record as Governor, who could have a broad electoral appeal.  A mainline conservative who would not be objectionable to moderates and independents.

I love our Heavenly governor, although I don't think he wants to be president. Giuliani is leaning toward him as his running mate if he were to get the nomination, I have heard.

Richardson, Lynch, Sebelius, Henry, former governor Warner, Manchin, Jodi Rell, and perhaps one of the western Governors -- Schweitzer or Freudenthal perhaps?

I don't know enough about Mark Sanford.  Everytime I have seen him interviewed, I have liked him very much personally.  Seems like a great guy.  Probably too conservative for my taste, though.

Even though he's ineligible, Schwarzenegger, a moderate, wouldn't get as much (quite well-deserved) hate as The Decider, and he wouldn't get impeached either.

Brian Schweitzer, Brad Henry, Dave Freudanthal, Mark Sanford, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I am also leaning towards including Alabama Gov. Bob Riley, but I don't know enough about him (beyond what I have read in Wiki, much of which is to my liking) to make an informed decision about him.  Does anyone from that state or from the Deep South provide more info on him regarding his governing style, and how his state has benefited (or not) from his leadership?

Jeb Bush is no longer governor.
-------------

And to everyone else who has listed him (or is contemplating to), neither is Mark Warner.

Sanford is more of a Republican in a libertarian mold and is staunchly conservative on economic issues and is especially a hawk both in terms of fiscal issues and going after earmarks and pork barrel projects and he sees as wasteful spending. He is also a social conservative but those seem to be not big issues with him and even though he is a Southern Republican he really can't be described as a stalwart of the religious right.

Thanks.  I am glad to hear it. Truth is, I've never heard anyone say anything bad about the guy.  I think it was Fritz Hollings who called him, "one of the nicest young men I have ever known".

He is indeed a pretty likable honest guy, However I really think if the Republicans lose in 2008 he could really turn the party around in 2012 as a Presidential candidate. The thing is though he doesn't seem to want to become one?

Regarding Sanford, won't his voucher connections hurt him? Also, what are his views on foreign policy?

Anyone who mentioned Schwarzenegger is utterly delusional. I don't care if you seriously think he would be a better president than Bush. That wasn't the original question. As far as I am concerned, he is just another stupid actor who should have stayed out of politics, and I am very embarrassed to have him as my governor.
