Before I dig too deep into this thread, I would like to first ask if anyone has already opened a serious discussion thread on Larry Sabato's 23 proposed constitutional amendments which would require a constitutional convention. ("Toward a more perfect Constitution")

I do think that all 23 amendments are worth serious debate.

Takers, anyone, before I begin? Let me know. I will be doing a major section on this in my blog: http://rosenthalswelt.blogspot.com

Let's take a look at 'em!

1- Interesting....but it defeats the purpose of the senate
2- dumb
3- Oh, God yes.
4- Hmmmm...
5- Maybe Not- perhaps make one and all of the seats equal the smallest state?
6- Good Idea.
7- Good.
8- Good.
9- Not sure.
10- Good.
11- No.
12- Good.
13- 30 years.
14- Good.
15- 13 justices.
16- yes- permanently tie it to inflation as adjusted to CoL.
17- ?
18- yes
19-yes
20-yes
21-yes
22- "service" sounds reasonable.... it could be a draft, but it would have alternatives.

1. Highly debatable
2. Awful
3. Absolutely Necessary
4. Entirely unneeded
5. Probably harmful and counterproductive as far as the stated purpose is concerned
6. Awful
7. Awful
8. Might be marginally useful, but unlikely to ever be applied
9. Dreadful
10. Is it clear that the current text is inadequate?
11. Bad idea
12. Unobjectionable, but would cause more protests than it is worth.
13. Awful
14. Worse than 12
15. Dubious. Even number would be bad. Transitional opportunity for court-packing would be awful
16. Unobjectionable, worth doing
17. Beyond awful - criminally stupid
18. Shouldn't be in the constitution
19. Would do nearly nothing to achieve the stated goal (becides being highly contentious).
20. Probably awful
21. Worth considering under careful conditions.
22. Horrible
23. Unnecessary, probably harmful.

Of the 23, 1 seems essential, 1 unobjectionable and marginally useful, 1 possibly useful but unlikely t be used, 1 deserves debating and 1 would seem reasonable but is unlikely to ever be passed and is entirely optional, anyways. Most of the rest would be horrid beyond belief.

I see there is enough interest to start. I will be posting the whole shebang this weekend.
