Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the pitting of the strongest showing players on either side against the weakest showing players on the other side almost assure the formers' victory (besides the ones in the middle)?

This way rewards those who performed well in the "preliminaries" if you will. It's similar to the regular season champion in baseball or football getting the best seed in the playoffs. If you pit best vs. best and worst vs. worst, some very good players won't advance while some very bad players will.

Same as the first round. I'll face you 4 times (twice with dynamism and regionalism, twice without dynamism). Out of all of the matchups, the top 4 Republicans and top 4 Democrats advance.

Nah. My only concern is that the Republicans, who performed better in the prelims, win almost all of the second round matchups. That would certainly give evidence for a bias.
