There is nothing extreme about this.  The Constitution is based on the laws of Nature and Nature's God.

He is definitely running as the unabashed evangelical candidate, though.

LOL at Hickabee.

No, that's the Declaration of Independence.

"[Some of my opponents] do not want to change the Constitution, but I believe it's a lot easier to change the constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God, and that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards."

Would those be God's standards as exegeted by...

Mike Huckabee?
Pat Robertson?
James Dobson?
Rod Parsley?
Gary North?

See, the problem is not with what the Bible says.  The problem is that various sets of human beings believe they know what it means and how it should be applied in the 21st century. (Hint:  Typically against those who sin "differently" than they do!)

Our founding fathers understood the danger inherent in that.  But of course, the Inquisition, the Salem witch hunt and the persecutions of Baptists and Quakers might have been fresher in their memories.

Way to go, Huck.  Keep moving us down that dark road.

If anyone else said it, I would be up in arms.  But it's just part of Mike's endearing oldtimey corny schtick.

Ummm... no.  Get your American documents straight please.

This reminds me of a Bill Clinton quote.

"Like it says in the Declaration of Independence, 'A government of the people, by the people for the people.'  You know, that's what it says in the Constitution."

Actually, its from the Gettysburg Address.

And this is why he is completely and totally unelectable on a national scale.  There are a lot ofreligious conservatives in this country but I'd wager that at least 50% of them would frown upon Constitutional amendments which mentioned God in any way shape or form.  I would hope that at least that many have enough sense to realize that inserting God into our Constitution would completely undermine any remaining claims we can make about being a free nation.
