OK, the idea is to discuss increasing polarization. Here is a map of the 1976 election with all states where the margin of victory was below 5% in gray. They equal 299 EVs.





In 2000 it looked like this: below 5% are in green and equal 139 EVs.

I'm pretty sure 1960 was even less polarized, weren't more than half of the states inside 5%?
