I'm surprised it wasn't the warmest. In Michigan the weather was warmer than any I can remember in my lifetime. We went swimming in the Grand Traverse Bay in early October. That's unheard of.
But according to the article 1934 still holds a slight edge for warmest on record. In any event the span of recorded data is only 1 or 2 centuries at most. That's a drop in the bucket compared to the earth's life. When you look at the longer time spans there is nothing remarkable about the current temperature. If the vostok data is to be believed, there were warmer periods during the last 10,000 years as well as in previous warm periods between ice ages.
1934 is the warmest on record
in the United States (actually, only in the lower 48). 2005 was the warmest on record worldwide.
