In 2008

Senator John McCain of Arizona wins the Republican Presidential nomination in a close race with former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

To unite the party after a bruising primary season, McCain gets chief rival Romney to be his running mate.  McCain realizes as well that Romney has the capabilities to become President should this become necessary.

On the Democratic side, Senator Hillary Clinton of New York wins the Democratic Presidential nomination, and she picks Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana as her running mate.

How does this electurn turn out?

Maps?

McCain is never picking Romney as VP.  I think he might prefer to be sent back to Vietnam.

A McCain/Sanford vs. Clinton/Bayh race would be much more realistic, IMHO.

True on so many levels.

Geographically and ideologically, it just doesn't work.

Agreed.  Under this scenario, McCain would probably win 300 ECVs.
