Not as bad as I would expect for Obama....I thought Clinton would have a bigger lead than 10....especially in Texas. Ive already voted here too.

Doesn't mean anything either way, though it's nice to see a reasonably competitive result.

Contacted IVR Polls and they told me they'll again poll Texas in the last week of February because of the higher turnout than previously expected. Polling now would provide distorted results:

The exact wording of the response I got:

"Greetings from Austin

The campaigns are moving large numbers of paid staff and starting to
advertise in Texas, so a lot of things will change over the next couple
of weeks. Many new people will decide to vote. If I poll now, many of
these voters will say they aren't currently planning to vote, so the
poll won't be accurate. I won't try polling until the last week of February.

I did a quick poll on the GOP after Romney dropped out, but the GOP race
is not experiencing the huge increase in turnout that the Dems are. My
last Dem poll was Jan 30-31 after Edwards dropped out, giving Clinton
48% and Obama 38%.

Ralph"

Obama within 5% of Clinton in Texas would actually be huge, if he somehow manages to win Ohio ... Wink

What's this IVR poll? Are they actually decent?

On a related note, Obama's opening his campaign office in Austin within the next couple days. I'm very excited.

The last polls out of both TX and OH have had Clinton at +10 and both (IIRC) have her bellow 50... encouraging for Obama's campaign (TX in particular).

IVR is a new polling company for Texas (that I know of).  They have no record for me to base anything on.

Texas MIGHT and I emphasize MIGHT be competitive for Obama if he can cut into her margin among Hispanics and bring out the black, college student, and indpendent vote.

Do you mean it doesn't matter because Hillary will win anyway, or that its an unreliable poll?

The poll itself is great news. Its IVR's 6th one of TX since last June, and in that time, her leading margin has dropped from 25 points to 10.

No, I imagine he means that because there are many more contests between now and Texas that things could radically change between then and now, thus this poll counts for very little.

I meant, at the time, that anything could happen on Super Tuesday. Which, on Feb 1, was still in the future.
