From Rasmussen:

"Clinton is viewed favorably by 82% of the state’s Likely Primary Voters, Obama by 70%. Obama is viewed favorably by 89% of African-American voters but just 51% of White Voters."

White Alabama doesn´t like Obama. We have also seen this in the latest SurveyUSA General Election poll, especially when Obama and Clinton are up against McCain:

McCain defeats Obama 63-29 in that poll, while he defeats Clinton 58-37, a difference of 13%. Among Whites, McCain defeats Obama 76-15 and Clinton 67-28, a difference of 22%.

White Dems in Alabama are rather different to White Dems in Georgia. Non-metropolitan industry as opposed to white collar metropolitan. Stereotyping to a grotesque degree here, but there's still some truth to it.

Yeah. In Georgia lots of Whites are actually Liberal, if they live in Atlanta and there are less Blue Dog Democrats.

dont worry.  all of the obama supporters will be around soon with all the reasons you should 'toss' this poll.

It actually shows Obama in a much stronger position than the last Alabama poll from Rasmussen (which had him down by 15%).

I don't see how Obama can lose Alabama.  This state's Democratic electorate is almost identical to South Carolina's.

It isn't entitirely impossible that Obama loses Alabama and wins California. It's unlikely, but if that happened nobody would give a damn about Obama losing Alabama.

Why would a small state like Alabama be a must win for a major candidate?

Well if he doesn't take the big prizes in New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and California he'll need to get a lot of victories in the smaller states to keep up with the delegate count.
