Barack Obama is blanketing Ohio with campaign ads in a huge media buy that appears to double that of Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton.

While no dollar amounts were released for Obama's ad buy, Bob Clegg, a long-time media specialist at Midwest Communications and Media in Columbus, described it somewhere between "very large and huge" on a statewide basis.

Obama's ad campaign is viewed as crucial in a state where Clinton's lead may be well into double digits.

Clegg said Obama's campaign even purchased airtime for three separate ads in the Cincinnati market, usually not a priority for Democrats because it is a Republican stronghold and much of the advertising is "wasted" because the market includes portions of Indiana and Kentucky.

Hillary Clinton's ad purchases, including a new one that began yesterday, are probably half of Obama's total thus far, he said.

Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has not bought airtime yet, Clegg said.

Meanwhile, Obama's ground war began over the weekend with a pair of glossy mail pieces attacking Clinton.

"Hillary Clinton believes NAFTA was 'a boon' to our economy" claimed one, emblazoned atop a large photo of a padlocked plant gate. Clinton's stance on the North American Free Trade Act, approved by her husband in the 1990s, has been a hot topic in economically distressed states such as Ohio.

The other says "Hillary's health care plan forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can't afford it" above a couple going through some papers at their kitchen table. The coverage afforded by the two Democrats' health-care plans is the main point of contention on that topic.

Don't know if you were being ironic or not, but neither Kentucky or Indiana have voted (they get to vote in May.  Still, normally in an Ohio-statewide race, they would be wasted eyeballs, which was what was meant.

Well that in addition to the fact that Democrats usually write off Indiana and Kentucky during presidential years as well.

I was ironic, yes. I know that theyīll vote later.

With reference to your second post: Naso & Co. once launched a whole thread about McCain being the nominee already, while the Democrats "most likely go until June". I donīt see how itīs negative at all. Obama now installs the organisational infrastructure in states like Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and is therefore months ahead of John McCain - who wonīt even set up offices in some parts of the country for the next months - because heīs completely broke. Obama adds 1-2 Mio. $ day-by-day and his campaign infrastructure becomes more battle-tested each day, even in states where neither Kerry or Gore have set foot 4 or 8 years ago. So much to the Obama-canīt-run-a-national-campaign-people.

I've seen four Obama ads in the past hour... but only one Clinton ad.

I have also been seeing far more Obama ads than Clinton ads.  Also, just today I saw three Obama yard signs and one Obama bumper sticker (and one Ron Paul sticker) but nothing for Clinton.  That could perhaps be a product of the area I as traveling in though.  I was mostly near campus (OSU) and in downtown Columbus.

I have yet to see or hear any Clinton ads.

The radio seems well saturated.. hell, I have heard that one station based in Detroit that we get here in Toledo has Obama ads, simply because it reaches us.
