I'll start with June 2004, since that was the first election with more than two candidates.

What this jumble of letters means is that both Gustaf and Nym won over StevenNick heavily; however, Gustaf was able to defeat Nym and win the Presidency by 5 votes, a relatively slim margin. While the results of this election were predictable, others may not be. I'll do some more later.

What is the Cliff Notes explanation of the difference between Cordorcet and the voting mechanism currently used at large Senate seats?

As the pretty multi-colored table in Section 4 shows, IRV (and, by extension, STV) fails the Condorcet criterion.
