I would like to make an amendment. I assume it'd be accepted as friendly.

I support this legislation

I'm not sure why we'd be concerned particularly about naval combat in this day and age. It's all land and air.

Well, sure. But that's only because we've not faced an enemy with a legitimate navy since World War Two. Remember the utility of aircraft carriers in every conflict since Korea. They're the reason why our ground forces have the air support they do.

I object to the friendly amendment BTW.

Since it's difficult to allocate or ringfence funds solely for one aim (which has a wide interpretation) I would oppose the amendment but I would support the Bill as originally introduced.

The F-35 will have a naval version too. I think it is a waste of resources to still have a dedicated interceptor aircraft, and that a modern multi-role fighter like the F-35 is capable enough to serve both the strike and interceptor roles--thus, I think it would be appropriate to scrap the F-2 progra but enhance the F-35 one.

Technically. Actually, it's pretty embarrassing that it managed to fall off the first page and thus out of mind. My sincerest apologies.

If there are no further comments, I will open a final vote on this legislation soon. However, I would like to give some time for new Senators to acquaint themselves with this bill first.
