This doesn't sound too serious, which is good.  Byrd is one of my favorite Senators, and I hope he will be okay.

and Warner is hospitalized, too. I hope they're ok and all, but I think Byrd has been too old to serve in the Senate for a while now.

If I made fun of George Wallace for being crippled, I'm sure you wouldn't find that offensive Tongue
Pope Benedict was in the Hitler Youth    oh lets make fun of that too!

I'm tired of conservatives making fun of Byrd's past. The man was from a different time. If he was a Republican, you wouldn't care, its just an issue you guys use to taunt Democrats.

I hope Senator Byrd recovers soon. I wonder if Nick Rahall would be appointed to his seat if, God forbid, anything happened.

It is incredibly hypocritical considering they run and win in the South with their hoods if not displayed, firmly implied.

He's a (very) old man and this sort of thing happens to old people sometimes.

If he was a Republican, the Democrats would undoubtedly capitalize on his past to even greater effect.

Best wishes to Sens. Byrd and Warner.

Well I hope his doctors aren't "white ns", a term he coined no so long ago, so give us a break about "Byrd's past".  His past is his present is his future.

I do hope he recovers though.

Then why harp on the past of some Republicans? Now go ahead and tell me you don't do that.

And if we're using the "different time" argument, shouldn't we excuse slavery and Jim Crow and everything else?

From the KKK to Michael Yoo Fatemi (a half-Korean descendant of Mohammad) in 3 generations? Certainly a lot of improvement.

something tells me byrd isnt an obama supporter.

He's praised Clinton on a number of occasions, and probably supports her.  He is the ultimate party elder-50 years in the Senate, a Majority Leader, and senior Democrat on the Appropriations Committee for the last 19 years.

i doubt he 'supports' her.  he was very critical of the clinton presidency.

but in his book im sure being a woman is at least slightly better than being a negro.
