When the USSR dissolved, Russia became the represenatative to get the veto.

If the UK breaks up which nation would get the UN security council permanent seat and more importantly, veto?
Why? Why not?

I hope it's Northern Ireland, because that will be the most fun politically.

The only way that could happen would be if England seceded from the United Kingdom. Smiley

England of course.

Although, I'd like to see Wales get some sort of voting power on the global stage just to see what they'd do with it.  We already know what those crazy Irish and Scottish bastards are capable of, but the Welsh always seem to keep to themselves and their grape juice.

See, if Wales were more outgoing, I would know that.

England would be the likely one to get the position on the UN Secruity Council.

Though I would like to see Northern Ireland on the Security Council. That would be very amusing. Can't you just imagine Ian Paisley on there?

All four of them...and all seventeen former Soviet countries.  All veto.

And if that won't kill the UN, nothing will.

Seriously, though, England.

What would a Welsh foreign policy even look like?

I think we're missing the forest for the trees here:

If the UK were to break up, there would be more pressing questions at hand than who gets the vote.... like why the hell did the UK break up and what will Prince Charles be the prince of?

I don't think the UK breaking up necessarily means that Wales will declare independence (please don't attack me if I have greatly misanalyzed this Al. . .).  The political union between Wales and England goes back much further than between England and Scotland or England and Ireland.

Meanwhile, even if Wales were to become a separate country, Charles could still be Prince.  Queen Elizabeth is Queen of Canada, Australia, and a number of other commonwealth realms, so I see no reason why Charles couldn't be Prince of Wales and Duke of Rothesay (I believe the Scottish title for the heir to the throne).

perhaps the seat would go to none of them after debate picks a country such as say Brazil to take the seat instead.

Actually...

How about this.

NI leaves, takes the veto with it, and unites with the Republic of Ireland.  I wouldn't mind seeing Eire on the UNSC.
