Interesting regional breakdown in Ohio. Obama leads everywhere except the Northeast, where Clinton cleans up.
Er... isn't the Northeast Cleveland?

EDIT: Nevermind, Cuyahoga County is a separate region in the exit poll.

The northeast is Akron, Youngstown, etc., the heart of the rust belt.

Obama is winning in Cuyahoga County. I wasn't expecting that....

Cleveland has a large black population (obviously) and the county itself has some rather upscale suburban areas mostly (IIRC) east of the city).

Uh, why not? It's Cleveland.
Manufacturing. I thought it would be much closer if he won anyways.

Yeah except the manufacturing workers in Cleveland are mostly black.
I thought it was more mixed....
Oh well, I haven't paying attention as much as I did during Super Tuesday.

That makes sense I guess. For some reason I thought the suburbs would be mainly working class, rather than upscale, but I suppose Cleveland still retains its prominence to an extent.

OTH, Cleveland is in dire straits from the foreclosure crisis. Shaker Heights, the wealthy suburb you speak of, has huge swathes of the city entirely empty due to foreclosures. I would expect them to fall head over heels for the brainless freezing of interest rates.

Oh yeah like the Eastern European Catholics. I would expect them to go for Clinton though.

All gone. Most of it anyway. There's a reason why the rust belt is called that.

(actually there are still about 80,000 manufacturing jobs left in that county. But that's nothing on what was the case just a few decades back and about 20,000 less than was the case in 2000).

Yeah except the manufacturing workers in Cleveland are mostly black.

No. Really, really, no.

Oui. Will be interesting to see how different the results are in the 10th and 11th CDs.

Crunching the Ohio Exit poll numbers leaves me feeling very good. Obama didn't have to win, he just had to avoid the 55%-44% numbers that the polls were projecting.

He apparently has done that.

Of course but Manufacturing workers have heavy turnout and that is still a big chunk of the county

Sounds like Obama may narrowly carry Texas (according to MSNBC's exits anyway)

Yeah especially to see how Catholic and Orthodox ethnic Eastern Europeans vote, compared to those in MA.
