I know all five cities quite well, and have lived in two of them, and wrote a long piece about them all, with their merits and demerits, but then this site went on the fritz for a minute, and I lost the text.

Anyway, my rank order and Reader's Digest version of the five is:

1. NYC (very expensive and crowded, so for an old like me, walking the packed streets can get wearing after awhile, but it has so much to offer, works well as a city, and has a creative class which I like)
2. LA (I love LA (it has a creative class now the way NYC does), but very expensive (the housing prices now are just nutter), and the traffic is hell, just hell).
3. Chicago (fantastic place, but the climate is a killer, and it's still too segregated).
4. Philadelphia (drab city really, and something of a sprawl, but has a pretty good transportation system;  its main compensating virtue to being a very weak sister of NYC, is that it is much cheaper to live in, with far lower housing prices).
5. Houston (cheap to live in, good job opportunities, but just awful overall, and the climate sucks - heat, humidity, and hurricanes).

Chicago, where I probably plan to live within the next 5-6 months.

1. Chicago (already...)
2. NYC
3. Houston
4. Philadelphia
5. LA (sorry, California avatars)

(If we're including Phoenix, it'd be last, after LA. That heat is killer, even moreso than Uber)

1.Chicago - first and foremost, due to similarity of climate (I live in East-Central Europe)
2.LA - this would be my American winter abode if winter in Chicago would have been too severe to stay)
3./NYC - for touring purposes
4.Houston - for the same purposes as LA
3.Philadelphia - for touring purposes

Why is there so much L.A. hatred in this thread? Do you not like perfect weather and attractive people?

None of those things are true about that city, unless you consider smog attractive.

Although I can't change my answer in the poll, I'd like to change it on here to reflect my current position.

1. Chicago, IL
2. Philadelphia, PA
3. New York, NY
4. Los Angeles, CA
5. Houston, TX

However, if we're taking COL and other QOL factors into consideration, then I'd have to change that list a bit.

1. Chicago, IL
2. Houston, TX
3. Philadelphia, PA
4. Los Angeles, CA
5. New York, NY
