I really can't see Lindsey Graham running for President. McCain's VP will the frontrunner if McCain choses not to seek a second term. If not, it will be Romney and Huckaee early on, and then someone else who satisfies everyone later.

I dont think Obama runs again if he loses this year. Warner definitely will be the frontrunner. He may be too conservative to win in a Democratic primary. He's an acceptable candidate to me. He's almost more Republican than Romney was in 2002.

So, at this point, assuming that McCain wins the election and doesn't run again-

I would think

- Sen. Warner (D-VA)
- The Democratic VP for this year

vs.

- Mitt Romney
- Mike Huckabee
- Vice President Sanford

What if Obama is very popular, and it really doesn't look like it'll be a Republican year? Who will not bother? Who will try anywa.

Well, it initially looked like a Republican year in 1992....and then the reccesion hit.  Anyway, most of the big names sorta backed out of that race and let a more obscure Democrat win the nod. Therefore, if Obama wins and scares the big names out of the race (Romney, Huckabee et al.), look for Jindal and Palin to run. Though, they are ultra-conservative. Actually, look for someone young and/or pragmatic-to-moderate to be nominated. Someone like Pawlenty or Crist. (Though they will be like 56)

I think if the Republicans win, McCain does not seek re-election, but the Republicans see winning as impossible and just give the nomination to a person to send the party in a new direction.  For this think of a paleoconserative or libertarian such as Mark Sanford or Fmr. New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson.

If the Democrats win, the incumbent seeks re-election, if they lose they have to win in 2012 to prevent becoming irrelevant.  They turn to a well-respected Gov. or Sen. such as Mark Warner or Brad Henry.

I don't think Patrick would get in he is already having a difficult enough time be governor of Massachusetts and personally I don't think he is Presidential material.
