Clinton only beat Obama by 7% among Catholics. What's the matter with West Virginian Catholics?

There are only about 50 Catholics in the state, and they are all gay. I hope that helps. Another theory of course, is well they would tend to have a higher socio economic class here.

I am guessing Catholics in WV are actually more affluent than Protestants, and that they are probably also non-industrial workers, or non-Dems.
Or a really small sub-sample.
That too, but I like looking smart by giving an complicated answer. Tongue

Pretty much.

This isn't really an underperformance for Obama in West Virginia.  This was an inevitable clobbering that's being exacerbated by the news media's insatiable desire to manufacture electoral fluidity.

Exit polls suggest that if Clinton is the nominee, 19% of her vote will vote for McCain; while if Obama is the nominee, 13% of his vote will vote for McCain

Remember WV is not so much home to the 'Reagan Democrat', it is home to the 'Bush Democrat'

There aren't many Catholics in West Virginia. The area with the largest (and only significant) population of Catholics is the Northern panhandle (ie; Wheeling, Weirton, etc). Bearing in mind how the Pittsburgh metropolitan area (and Steubenville et al on the other side) voted you wouldn't think it great territory for Obama. But who knows.

Quite true. Mondale actually performed well in WV compared to most states.

Carter won the state in 1980.

Obama needs to get any closeted super delegates out soon.

Obama tends to like to roll out big endorsements after primaries. Who will it be this time?

And, yet, Dukakis went back to Massachusetts and Clinton went to the White House.

Her surprise and game changing victory in West Virginia has made a Clinton supporter out of me.

Obama will almost match the 33% of the remaining delegates that he needs to secure the nomination.

Wow...  Howard Wolfson is clueless.  I love how Wolf Blitzer and John King are grilling him over how he can deny the math.

Considering that in the last week alone he got 27 of them (overall, the week was +27 Obama, net +1 Clinton), he shouldn't have much difficulty.

Clearly the lack of votes means that Obama nuts are rigging the election. Scandalous.

Donna Brazille on CNN, perpetuating the myth that every state except FL & MI complied with the DNC calendar rules....no mention of IA & NH's rulebreaking.

That's true.  Almost all of the January states broke the rules in some form or another,  That's why the Republicans stripped most of those states of half their delegates.  They stripped Michigan and Florida, but also South Carolina, and maybe some other states that I can't remember right off hand.

I wouldn't read too much into WV, it is entirely Appalachian. Not to mention Clinton favoring demographics. That won't stop those out there spinning it as being nothing short of a disaster for Obama
