you can count me as all for it.

not just halfway for it, but all the way for it.  i mean the whole deal...lottery, casinos, dog and horse tracks, sports gambling etc.  im sick to death of these moralizing f'ers trying to impose their morals on everyone else.

just think of the money gambling would rack in for  the state.  maybe then we could reduce taxes.   here in nc, we are so backwards that we dont even have a lottery.  but we do have a 2% tax on food.

tell me something...what does your bible say about taxing food?  it probably isnt in there, but it should be.  taxing people for food is much more immoral than scratching off a lottery ticket.

disclaimer:  im not a big gambler, but i do enjoy it every now and then.

I have no problem with legalized gambling just as long as they keep it off the river fronts with river boat gambling. It ruins a beautiful view of the Mississippi River.

Sure.  If someone wants to gamble, let them.  Surprisingly, legalized gambling is legal in MS, but only on water--the Gulf Coast, or the MS River or a tributary--only the counties that border water, if the county votes to allow it.

Gambling should be legal EVERYWHERE. What someone wants to do with their money is their business.

Reason's?

I'm for it. Liberty and all that. Gambling in excess is a bad thing, but it is still a personal choice. As long as people are made to be responsible for their choices that's all I care about.

Yes, it isn't the government's responsibility to stop people from making personal bad choices that don't affect anyone else.  Since gambling falls under this catagory, go ahead and gamble.

The government doesn't stop me from spending all of my paycheck on kitty litter, why do they stop me from gambling?

Shocked, You must either have (a) a lot of cats or (b) a very low salary.

I'm for it.  If people want to throw their money away, that's stupid, but that's their business.

Yes, I'm for it. BUT--

And this is an important but. You cannot have it both ways. If it's society's job to 'take care' of people with welfare, free health care, and whatever else the hell (50 years from now, we'll be debating 'house care'), then society doesn't want to pay for people's gambling habbits.

It's just like smoking. Sure, I think it should be legal. But when government is responsible for your health, you are living under a very dangerous system indeed--because whatever you take in is now open to government dictation.

You cannot expect people to "take care" of you without giving up your freedom. Same with friends and family, same with government.

Of course it is a shocking violation of personal freedoms to have laws against gambling.   That said legalizing 24 operation of bars and liquor sales, legalizing prositution, and legalizing drugs are all just as important.

I'm for it. I'd like to see the return of Riverboats actually. Make it like a vacation package, and dress them up to make them look historical. Could be a great tourist attraction.

I'm 100% for legalizing gambling.  And kids should be allowed to gamble too.

Why not?  Arcades are just the same thing except you can't win in most cases.

Gambling is fine.  It generates a lot of money--mostly for the tribes. But, they have agreed to voluntary contributions to the state in return for keeping their books closed.

From my viewpoint, the lottery, the casino, and other forms of gambling are wastes of money. A person might win in the short-run, but the odds are against the person in the long run. If someone wants to waste money where the odds are certainly stack them, then who am I to impose any restrictions? But I do have issues about the economic benefits (example: tax) of legalized gambling.

Gambling is done by all economic classes, but it adversely effects the lower-income people, and that economic group is more susceptible to the 'get rich' quick scheme of gambling. And since lower income people statically will gamble more, the taxation of gambling is unfairly regressive. Add to that with gambling losing its luster after a while, the tax revenue generated is not consistent. In my opinion, the economic costs outweigh the economic benefits.
