Truman's politics were a lot like Gephardt, promoting the minimum wage and  the rights of labor unions. He was uber-effective at blasting the Republican Congress. The only reason he wouldn't win would be if the left abandoned him because they are angry at Hiroshima, but if this didn't happen it would be a blowout in Truman's favor.

I'd definitely support Truman.  Bush would attack Truman for "gutting the military" with the Truman commission.

Truman/Truman

The Democrats during Truman's time didn't take apalling positions on social issues and if I were alive then I would have been a rabid Democrat.

I disagree. Harry Truman did the right thing in ending the war and saving millions of lives, including that of my great-uncle, a POW. An all out land war with Japan could have dragged on to 1947 and cost millions of Allied, Japanese and civilian lives. There would have been no Marshall Plan, or at the most an extremely watered down version and Europe would be a disaster area. I'd hate to think how far the Communists would have gotten in Europe (never mind Japan, where they would no doubt have occupied in the northern islands and Japan would have had its own 'Iron Curtain') Harry Truman helped Europe prosper and allowed Japan to prosper with McCarthy. You should be thankful.

Bush wins, easy. Truman dropped the atomic bombs, which was indeed a good thing any way you look at it, but also kept thousands of Japanese in internment camps a year after the war was over, so no one would know about it til after the mid-term elections.

Yeah, that may hurt you in an election.

I'd vote Truman, and he'd win in a landslide.  You republicans do know that John Kerry is the only person in the universe that could possibly lose to GWB.  The Dems should've nominated a puppy.  It'd win big time.

If you had, we would have nominated my dog, Lucky.

The puppy would lose on teh experience factor.  not to mention Lucky has livevd on teh street.  He has legit street cred and would take the urban vote.

There were a lot of candidates worse than Kerry.  most of your field woudl have done worse.  Edwards or Lieberman would have been better.  Gephardt would be about the same, but less mistake prone.

Truman/Truman, although it's unlikely Truman would run against GWB.

Truman/Truman

A good map, but Truman would win at least Ohio, NH, WV too.

I'm curious as to why Truman is winning California and New York but not New Jersey, Connecticut, or Vermont...

Here's my personal conjecture:

Truman: 333
Bush: 205
