Since the use of this forum is defunct anyway, it seems to be the perfect place for the following:

Apparently, Dick Bennett of American Research Group, of all people, had the chutzpah (Hi Harold!) to call out the person behind FiveThirtyEight.com for his predictions. Here's the reply.

Here's a thought.

One of us, who's good at web designing, should make a site that looks like it's one of a legit polling outfit. Then, we should start making up numbers. Completely out of the blue. Just something that looks plausible. Then we write up fancy press releases and send them out to blogs and media outlets, wait for some lazy story writer to pick it up, and then it begins to spread. We'd probably get found out after a few weeks, but we'd get a kick out of it for a while.

We could also then see if we get our made up numbers more accurate than actual polling outfits (looking at you PPP, ARG and Zogby).

Brilliant!

If Hardball and the Situation Room put ARG polls out there as legitimate polls, I don't see why they shouldn't put us.

This actually makes sense.

Alcon, it's your job to register the domain.

Count me in. ARSE is too obvious, though; the media loves acronyms and would pick up on it right away. Something generic would work better; say, the >deleted<

We don't even have to make up numbers that look implausible; being more accurate than ARG would be fun Smiley

Domain time, guys.

I suggest AlcHitlre PM all the conspirators once a domain is acquired, so that news media types who Google the name of our erstwhile polling institute will not so the Atlas Forum as the first hit.

Also, I move that the numbers we come up with be based on the average of recent polls, with standard deviation factored in; I know it as the function RandNorm on my calculator, which apparently generates a "normal-distributed random number".

I would like to join this conspiracy as well, provided that it doesn't actually require me to do any work.  Wink

Dick Bennett's clients must be getting antsy.

You have to give ARG credit for polling SD though. They completely reversed the conventional wisdom on that state in about 48 hours.

I want in too.  I wonder if we could just post some threads about how wink-wink-nudge amazing this poll firm is without having kids ruin it with all of their wtfs.  Alas

There already is a test one for Washington. It looks really professional.
