John Kennedy decides to seek the vice presidency again in 1960 instead of the presidency. Incumbent Speaker of the House, Lyndon Johnson wins the democratic nomination on the first ballot at the DNC. He selects John Kennedy as his running mate.

On the republican side, Vice President Richard Nixon wins the Republican Nomination as he did in real life. Nixon convinces Rockefeller to join his ticket.

Both parties are fully united behind their candidates.

Discuss with maps.

Lyndon B. Johnson/John F. Kennedy (D): 285 Electoral College Votes
Richard M. Nixon/Nelson A. Rockefeller (R): 252 Electoral College Votes

Despite Richard Nixon selecting Governor Nelson Rockefeller as his running mate at the 1960 Republican National Convention, the Democratic ticket of Lyndon Johnson and John F. Kennedy win the White House by taking the all important state of Illinois and her 27 Electoral College votes. Like in RL, Illinois is won by Johnson in this scenario thanks to JFK's father Joe, buying votes in Mayor Daley's heartland.
