Gorkay had a good one (what happened to him?). So, I'll be doing one of my own. The interactivity starts at the core; I'll be taking nominations for a POD for 48 hours.

John F. Kennedy survives his November 22, 1963 assassination attempt. But we all know how that will turn out Tongue.

Seriously why not try Warren Harding never goes on his Voyage of Understanding in July/August 1923 and runs for re-election in 1924. That might be an interesting one.

Dwight Eisenhower has a heart attack before 1952 and does not run for President.

Here are some suggestions ....

*Battle of Gettysburg, Ewell does not delay in his assault of Cemetery Hill and easily takes it (preventing it from becoming a rallying point for the I and XI Union Corps).  This one event allows Longstreet to seize the round tops and win the Battle.  This gives Confederate forces a direct line to assault either Philadelphia or Washington DC.

*Ronald Reagan is killed by Hinckley's bullet

*Ted Kennedy rescues Mary Jo Kopechne

*Hillary Clinton dies in childbirth

*Frank Wills goes for a cup of coffee and doesn't catch the Watergate burglars

*Barack Obama gets the flu and cannot speak at the 2004 Democratic Convention

Eisenhower retires in 1956, rather than run again.

Heh, I love these things, glad to see your starting another one up. Here are a few ideas:

President-elect FDR is killed before he can take office.

FDR declines to run in 1940

Robert Taft faces off against Truman in 1952

Kennedy loses the nomination in 1960

Nixon loses in 1968

The ballots have been counted, and the winner is:

Confederates win at Gettysburg

The TL will start shortly.

On the evening of July 1, 1863, Lieutenant General Richard S. Ewell is ordered to take Cemetery Hill, near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He does not delay, and the taking of the high ground by the Confederates gives the Union forces no place to go when they are forced to retreat. Having suffered huge losses, the depleted Union forces limp back across the border to Taneytown, Maryland. The Confederate position is now unchallenged.

Vote: Does Lee move toward Philadelphia or Washington?

Philadelphia makes more sense.  Washington was heavily fortified.  Lee's entire goal in going North was to get the Union to capitulate by bringing the war "home" (not entirely unlike what Sherman did later).

If Lee sacks Philadelphia he (A) can convince the British to officially recognize the Confederacy and possibly intervene and (B) it will exacerbate the draft riots in NYC.
