William of Normandy, for overthrowing Britain and setting the path for it to become the largest empire on the face of the Earth.

Not really. More important was the importation of then French Feudal customs (including the Romance Medieval French language) into the Anglo-Saxon realm.

'Overthrowing Britain'? What does that even mean?

Also, that is one of the most ridiculous teleologies I have seen in a long time.

Most words imported into English from French came in the 15th-18th centuries, not immediately after William the Conqueror.
