They also polled Ken Salazar against Bill Owens and John Elway. I have no idea why.

Salazar: 44
Owens: 41

Salazar: 44
Elway: 37

That's a half-assed attempt at an early start on the 2010 race if ever I saw it.

Fred Barnes recently opined on the sorry state of the Colorado GOP. Four years ago, they controlled the governorship, the legislature, both U.S Senate seats, and five of the seven House seats. Through the deft efforts of four liberal millionaires, Colorado liberals recruited savvy candidates, created an apparatus to elect them, and invested in media outlets to undermine  their Republican opponents. This takeover has been remarkable successful.  If Obama, Udall, and Markey win (all three have a 50/50 shot or better of victory), Colorado will have flipped from red to blue on th electoral map, and Democrats will be in the same place the Republicans were four years ago.

Now all the Colorado GOP bench is comprised of a retired QB with no political experience and a disgraced former governor. If Colorado Republicans hope to compete again, they should heed the lessons of the '04-'08 liberal ascendancy. To that end, Barnes' article should be required reading for the GOP.

Whoa, easy there.  What's your beef with Owens?

Problems with Owens:
1. He backstabbed fiscal conservatives on TABOR, opening up a rift in the party that divides it to this day.
2. His water grab initiative was a disaster
3. His very public and salacious divorce embarrassed his family and his party.

He lied to his wife, voters, and conservative interest groups.

The CO Democratic party could write the textbook on turning a state from red to blue. The MT Democratic party has also been a model for success, although they have much further to go.

And the Virginia Democratic Party.

I haven't been paying attention to Tom Tancredo's old district.  Who's going to be the next Congressman from there, and is he any less embarrassing than Tancredo?

Mike Coffman. Big military guy who actually doesn't like Tancredo because he dodged the draft. Still, Coffman is a hardcore conservative neocon who supports war with Iran. Not good... but not quite as bad as Tancredo.
