Welcome the 40th Canadian Federal Election, in 2009.

The events that have happened in real life during the 38th and 39th Parliament are still here in this timeline, this includes the Gomery Commission, the Bernier scandal, the ADQ in Quebec, the Tories Hate Ontarians affair etc.

Parties whose name is striked out means they are taken.

Necessary parties

Liberal
Conservative
NDP: EMD
Bloc: Xahar
Green

Other Parties include...

Neorhino
Marxist-Leninist
Christian Heritage
Communist
Marijuana
Canadian Action
Libertarian
Progressive Canadian
FPNP
Western Block: Ilikeverin
AAEVP
People's Power
Work Less Party
Newfoundland and Labrador Party: Colin Wixted

Starting numbers in polls, for simplicity, latest poll

Con 33
Lib 32
NDP 17
Bloc 9
Greenies 7

In order to get this started, I request you do the following.

Political Party:
Leader name: This can be fictional or non-fiction
Leader home riding:
Number of candidates: Max. 308, Min. 10
Candidate Groupings: (Number of candidates per province, strongest province etc.)
Main point of platforms: Name only divergences from the real party's platform. If left blank, I assume regular party platform.

PLEASE, BE REALISTIC!

Game info to follow when five necessary parties are signed up.

Rules.

START: April 1, 2009
END/ELECTION DAY: June 24, 2009

Basic

1. The 2006 election produced the same results as in real life.
2. Unless somebody chooses to play them in the game, all party leaders have been abducted by aliens and Dion has taken my stuttering clinic.

Players

1. If your leader's riding is currently held by his party, then I will assume he is running to succeed the retiring incumbent. (In Xahar's case, for example).
2. A political party, leader name, riding, number of candidate, and a breakdown of candidates by province.
3. For those playing the Liberal and Green parties, mention if you are running candidates in all ridings or if you keep the OTL deal between the two parties, where one party doesn't run a candidate against the leader of the other party (the Green leader has no Liberal opposition, and vice-versa).
4. NDP and Conservatives need to nominate 308 candidates.
5. If you are inactive in the game for six consecutive days without reason, you will be removed from the game and your party will be put up for grabs. You may sign-up again, however.

Gameplay

1. You post speeches, release press information, produce adds (with information on the topic and where it's running), campaign events etc.
2. One English and one French debate will be held under my moderation. Details and dates to follow.
3. Calendar: Up for group discussion (1 normal day=1 gameplay day, 1 normal day=2 game play days, etc?)

Need Help?

1. I strongly recommend glancing at the Canadian Federal Election Pundit's Guide online for past results, 2001/2006 census data, 2006 financial data, results by region etc.
2. PM me.
3. Wikipedia. Approach with caution, o/c.

More later.

Leader Name: Alexander Atlee
Leader Home riding: too lazy to look up, I want the one for Winnipeg though
Number of candidates: 290
Candidate Groupings: Manitoba, Nunavut, Yukon Territory and Northwest Territory
Platform: Mostly the same as OTL but with more emphasis on worker's rights rather than social issues and more populism.

What is your party? I also need a breakdown of candidates by province.

A list is provided here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Canadian_federal_electoral_districts

Choosing a riding is a pre-requisite, btw.

Political Party: Newfoundland and Labrador Party
Leader name: Arthur Poole
Leader home riding: Avalon
Number of candidates: 7 (I know this is below the minimum but I'm only running in N&L)
Candidate Groupings:

Newfoundland and Labrador: 7

Main point of platforms: Pro-autonomy in the short term and pro-independence in the long-term. Make it easier for Newfoundland and Labrador to open up their lands to the development of natural resources. Work with the federal government to help develop Newfoundland and Labrador but maintain the necessity of sovereignty to help better our province.

I played an important party last time. I'll go with one that's crazy and irrelevant this time.

Do I have to participate in the English debate? I'm not looking for Anglophone votes.

It's your choose.

I'll skip it, then.

BTW: I've decided to run candidates in Acadie—Bathurst, Beauséjour, Madawaska—Restigouche, and Miramichi.
