Us cafeteria Catholics have to stick together.

Yeah, well, even the devout Catholics love the guy.  Roll Eyes  They can't give you a good reason why but they sure do love themselves some Jack ("short for John") Kennedy!

Well, Kennedy ran to the right of Nixon on national defense in 1960, and he was responsible for the second largest post-World War II tax cut. Both Rockefeller and Kennedy were big government liberals, but Kennedy appears to have been the most conservative of the two, so I'd vote for him.

I would vote for Rockefeller, albeit very reluctantly. Ultimately, I would not be able to bring myself to care about who won this election, since Rockefeller & Kennedy are both too liberal for my tastes.

Well, I guess we have a wording problem here. I hear "Cafeteria Catholics" and I'm not exactly thinking of the typical, devout Catholics.

I try to go to Church every week, receive the Sacraments, read the Word, pray, confess my sins to a priest, do good works. Does that not make me a devout Catholic just because I disagree with the Curia on stem cell research and gay marriage?

No, no, no. I know you're a devout Catholic. It's just that I always associated "Cafeteria Catholics" with those that mostly disagree with the Church and rarely, if ever, practice their faith.

I have disagreements with the Church on issues, too. I'm not one to seriously say (I may joke around from time to time) whether someone is really Catholic or not based on certain political beliefs.

Nixon obviously. JFK had a fetish for community service plus a foreign policy mindset that nearly caused WWIII.
