Just wondering benconstine, is there any major Israeli politician in history that you don't think is great?

I'm still waiting to see when you create a thread about Ariel Sharon. I'd be interested to see how you justify Sharon as a "Freedom Fighter", even though when he was Defence Minister in Menachem Begin's Government he ordered the 1982 Sabra and Shatila massacres, which resulted in the deaths of anywhere between 800 and 3500 Palestinian civilians. Not to mention the 1983 Kahan Commission concluded that the Israeli Defence Forces was indirectly responsible for the massacre and blamed it entirely on Defence Minister Sharon.

His actions during the Suez Crisis were grossly irresponsible.

Otherwise, my opinion of him is mostly positive.

I suppose you don't have any moral qualms about his involvement in the expulsion of Palestinian refugees?

An interesting, if often rather ruthless, man.

I do, but not enough to change my overall opinion of him.

What would change your opinion of him?

A true genocide, or some other sort of horrific deed.

Nope, my opinion of Bibi is still an overal positive, although not strongly, like it for Ben-Gurion, Meir, Dayan, and Rabin.

Positive overall though definitely not my favourite of our PM. Both the Altalena affair and the Saison were very irresponsible and could have led to a civil war that would have harmed badly the chances of establishing a state (luckily, Begin was smart enough to avoid one).
Also, it should be mentioned the Ben-Gurion established a semi-dictatorship of Mapai, all over the public sector people were promoted based on political affiliation and it is now known that Ben Gurion's men opened envelops of high military officers to make sure of their loyalty.
