Ok, Hillary wants a "voice" at the convention. Fine. Now she wants to put her name in for nomination. Ok...

But what is this about her calling Obama her "opponent" at an event held about a week ago? Is she serious? Does she think something will happen so that she's seriously considered?

I think this woman has either lost it or she doesn't care about looking like she wants Obama to lose. Causing this type of pre-convention drama certainly doesn't help Obama.

By the way, we Republicans are grateful, Hillary!

It's kind of like how they still call Bill "the President" and John Edwards is still a "senator". What they really mean is former but political people sometimes drop it.

The examples you gave were of honorable titles. "My opponent" doesn't fit.

Sure it does. He was her opponent in the primary. You failed to provide any context, btw, but in any conversation about the primary they would be referred to as opponents.

Right now, Hillary is in charge.  She cannot win the nomination, but she can split the Democratic Party, in full view of the TV cameras.

This situation has been the creation of the primary battle.

J.J. and Keystone, what exactly, if anything, do you think will happen?

I want it on record so we can evaluate the record in a month or so.

Or is this some amorphous thing that can be neither proved nor disproved?

She was talking about how much has done for her "opponent" since she dropped out. I understand what you're saying but I just don't think it's wise to still mention him as the "opponent" and then go on to entertain the idea of putting your name in for the nomination.

I'm not saying what I think will happen. I was expecting you to say what you think will happen. This wasn't meant to be a prediction game where we can look back on it and see who was right and who was wrong.

All I'm saying is that if she is serious about this, she can quite possibly cause quite a headache during Obama's time. It certainly wouldn't help him.

Two things she could do.

1.  Royally screw up the schedule, forcing some of the things outside of prime time (shades of 1972).

2.  Have a sizable, but a minority, vote for her for President, or Vice President to make the news story be, "35-45% of the Democrats Don't want Obama/_______."

Now, it's the PR battle, not the procedural battle, but Obama wins in the Fall of 2008, Hillary really doesn't have any place to go.  She has little to lose, and may be able to become the king-maker, if not the Queen, of the Democratic Party.

A sizeable minority will not vote for her for Vice President.

She received about 1800 delegates for President. Those delegates may be voting for her, but they will all be cheering for Obama. The correct story would be "Hillary's delegates for vote Hillary." No less, no more.

That's ridiculously low, and given the stunts she has pulled/will try to pull its certainly possible

She can pull whatever stunts she likes, she ain't getting anywhere near half the votes of the delegates. At this point, she's only serving to distract Republicans from the actual race between Obama and McCain, and that's a good thing.

That's more than a bit optimistic.

You are confusing the version which you'd like to see with the one we all might see.  The story of "Democratic Disunity" has been running since Bill Clinton's comments.

The is another thing they can do; walk out.  It's happened before.  Procedurally silly, but great political theater.

It's flattering to see so many Republicans concerned about our convention.

Well there is always that chance that Obama gets shot, so this actually isn't as unreasonable as it seems.

The percentage of Presidents who have been shot and killed in office is greater than that percentage....of course the fact that it'd have to happen within a 3 week timeframe lessens the probability a bit.

Why? Hillary would never call for that, so what's the point?

Damn, what a disaster! Hillary's sabatoging of the schedule and her delegates' walk out was devastating!

I don't really know how we got to this point though, as we all know the Reverend Wright scandal destroyed the Obama campaign several months ago.

He was toast in February!
