It's not really that complicated if you think about it.

I know.  But still, I just don't think people should be so resentful.  (Of course, this is coming from an upper-middle class suburban kid. . .)

McCain made his money the old fashioned way  --  he married it!

Oh, and why won't Obama help support his impoverished half-brother?

Because in McCain's ads, he says things like..."In this tough economy, Barack Obama wants to raise taxes, wasting your paycheck and hurting our families."

I'm pretty sure Obama could raise taxes a billion dollars and McCain would be fine. He adds we and our in just like Bush did in 2000-2004 to connect to people even when he has 0 in common with them.

McCain made his money the old fashioned way  --  he married it, after cheating on his less wealthy first wife with the young rich hottie.

fixed.

and they own so many homes, sometimes they "forget" to pay their real estate taxes.  I mean, who can keep track of these things.  honest mistake.  but HE's to lead the free world?

You really don't understand

McCain imagines himself to be an absolute monarch, hence the imperious "we" and "our."

Its not being against the rich.  Its about McCain thinking the economy is fine, and perhaps the fact that he had to check with his staff because he didn't even know how many houses he actually owns is the reason he doesn't see the economic problems.

I think Cindy owns most of the houses. She has kept her property separate. McCain just gets to use them rent free. Tongue

Well, yeah.  And I'm sure she's not exactly the one who manages all that property.

This has to be the stupidest attack ad I have ever scene.  The Democrats aren't even bothering to hide their blatant attempt at class warfare, nor are they mentioning that Obama's got some coin too.

You know, for once I think this might actually backfire.

so yeah, since they have not bothered to oversee their management on this, they really can't be criticized over it.
as to the point of "class warfare", it is interesting that this is the same group who likes to criticize obama supporters as "Latte Liberals" and who claim Obama is only doing so well because of his race.

Oh, and why won't Obama help support his impoverished half-brother?

Why won't McCain and his wife help Cindy's impoverished half-sister?  See the campaign subforum if you want to participate in that particular childish back-and-forth.

This ad is interesting because it also has subtle age digs.  McCain "couldn't remember" and then you're like, awww grandpa, your keys are in your POCKET.

I actually like this ad from a tactical point of view.  It's part at attacking McCain's strengths and turning their elitism charge back on him.  Now McCain is the one who is out of touch and doesn't understand economics to boot.  I think the event of 'not being able to remember how many houses I own' is something that most Americans can't connect with.

I think it has to do with the "Why does he have all that money (or marry into all that money) and I do" mentality.  I wil admit that I think there are some people out there who are "rich" that don't "deserve" it, but then again, that's the nice thing about a free market society.  Anyone can become rich, even the bum on the street corner.

Jonathan Martin on Politico:
Link
Barack Obama's campaign, moving rapidly to exploit what they see as a major opportunity, is deploying high-profile surrogates in 16 states across the country today to highlight John McCain's uncertainty yesterday about how many houses he owns, the Democrat's campaign tells Politico.

Governors, members of Congress and state legislators will hold conference calls and press conferences in front of homes to draw attention to the issue. Party leaders such as Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, on the stump in Ohio and Iowa respectively, wil move to incorporate the matter into their remarks on the campaign trail today in an effort to draw local media attention to the story.

Further, some state parties will hold contests in which Democrats seek out real voters who don't know how many houses they own.

And in other states, ordinary citizens who have been victim of the mortgage crunch will hold press availabilities to contrast their plight with McCain's wealth.

The aggressive move on Obama's part is in keeping with a shift in campaign tactics since his vacation. Obama and his campaign aides have both ramped up their rhetoric in recent days. This latest effort reflects a willingness to hit McCain much harder and to veer from conventional issue-based attacks to the sort of character assaults that have marked the GOP's campaign against Obama as well as their effort against John Kerry in 2004.

Interesting...  I'm still trying to decide whether this is a good attack method or a real mistake.  Might take a couple of days to feel it out.

One thing's for sure - the race is about to get really ugly - because there is a natural counterattack to this that McCain will likely use.

I don't know how many houses I own  off the top of my head, and as I said, McCain doesn't even own the houses. Obama is nuts if he thinks this will get traction.

Hello, welcome to America.

That said, it's a stupid ad.
