I don't know how many houses I own  off the top of my head, and as I said, McCain doesn't even own the houses. Obama is nuts if he thinks this will get traction.

I tend to lean towards your opinion, but sometimes I want to get a feeling on how the matter reacts with the mass populace (which takes time).

My only concern is that negativity is usually not a good way to lead in to your convention.

I don't understand what people have against being rich?

The rich are the enemy.

Though I'll admit it goes without saying that anyone running for president is a rich (and certainly must serve them).

"He's more popular than you!"

"But he's richer than you!"

The still-bitter-about-high-school-vote is so up for grabs this year.

Americans are too deluded to understand socialism, but they still have a simple gut reaction that is accurate - the rich are their enemy.

Anyone can become rich, even the bum on the street corner.

Oh lordy, what a ridiculous bit of overripe propaganda.  But, as I said, the poor dumb schlubs believe it.

A gaffe from McCain. Will get minor traction like most gaffes and then fade into obscurity.

Yes he does, he's legally married to Cindy McCain.

Obama is nuts if he thinks this will get traction.

Yet you loved the negative attacks McCain launched.

Well if the polls are to be believed, McCain is now as popular as Obama, but he's still richer than Obama. Smiley

It sure warms my heart to see Obama bringing politics to a new level and conduct himself with dignity and grace in this campaign.

Yeah because not responding to attacks and trying to stay above the fray was working fantastically.

No he doesn't. They are Cindy's separate property. Spouses can own separate property you know. Mccain deducted $3,468 in property taxes on Schedule A of his 2007 Tax Return. He has no Schedule E income or loss, so he owns no real estate that he rents out. He apparently owns one home jointly with Cindy. The rest are all hers.

Find a post where I said I loved a McCain negative attack. Thanks.

I'm not surprised nor appalled. But then again, I wasn't when McCain did it either. I merely find the difference in reactions there to be a bit amusing. As well as the idea that Obama was SO different and such a gentleman, etc.

Incredibly hypocrisy from you as usual, Gustaf.  You expect Obama to sit by and let McCain smear him without response.

Oh, and why won't Obama help support his impoverished half-brother?

Maybe for the same reason that "only child" Cindy doesn't support her half-sisters.

I don't approve of this ad's message any more than McCain's celebrity ad. But I'm not surprised to find Obama responding in kind to what has been used against him. Gentleman doesn't mean pushover.

All McCain surrogates have been greenlighted to play the Rezko card anytime houses come up.

Today is going to be a nasty day in politics unless a VP choice arrives.

I'm not sure in the era of modern televised campaigns (especially 24-7 news coverage) that it is possible to do a non-negative national campaign.  This campaign so far, strangely enough, has been rather tame when you consider how long it has been going on.  I'm sure it will get muddier after the conventions though since the shine has come off of Obama and McCain doesn't have anything else new to say.

Well, they are basically refusing to defend McCain's comment.  I thought they might try and justify it somehow.  It seems like a very difficult thing to defend and they have decided to use the "change the subject" strategy.  It is also an interesting strategy because the Rezko card, like most cards, can only be played so many times, possessing significantly diminished punch each time.  I think McCain's camp takes this new houses thing very seriously to pull out one of their big guns and then refuse to play any defense.

McCain's camp is REALLY pulling out all stops

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0808/The_POW_card.html#comments

The POW card

Eric Kleefeld notices that McCain aides referred back to McCain's time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam in defending him from the mockery over his houses.

This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years -- in prison," says spokesman Rogers.

It does seem like they're flirting with Giuliani/9/11 territory here, in which at subject that seems utterly immune to humor, used as a first resort, suddenly becomes a running joke among your political enemies and your late night comic friends.

McCain himself, it should be noted, doesn't tend to talk about his prisoner-of-war experience in random contexts; but his staff and surrogates have been doing it a bit lately.

I wouldn't be playing defense.  You're sure reading a lot into *why* they pull this card, however.  And oddly enough, I don't think Rezko is the strongest card to play here.

As I always say, be patient.

Will Democrats now admit their candidate is rutting around in the dirt like any other political animal does?
