This gender pay equity thing just scares the hell out of me. It would be litigation city, as job wages cease to be dictated by the market.

Plus, minimum raise wages being shot up will just result in inflation.

OK, good finish.

Now it's up to Obama to deliver a 2004 caliber speech.

Well, she did what she had to do, I think. If Obama loses this I don’t think it can be blamed on her.

Well, some (and I dont necessarily agree) would say that such legislation is needed because of a market failure...assuming the woman and man are equal in all things other than gender/sex...but I agree, it would be difficult as you really can never hold so many variables constant.

I don't believe such pay disparities exist. It is not apples and oranges. The pay differentials are mostly generated by women going in and out of the job market. And this isn't about pay equity about the exact same jobs anyway, with the exact same job histories. It is about pay "fairness" for jobs in different categories, based on comparative worth. It's all toxic.

As Kristol points out, it was very generic. There was nothing personal about Obama. Just a comment that Michelle would make a great first lady. Nothing about her getting to know Obama, and thinking he was a very talented guy whom she came to respect.

It seems that she's treating herself as Harriot Tubman, freeing the slaves.  It seemed almost like she was saying that she was going to keep running for president by saying that she was going and needed to "keep going" like Harriot did when the police and dogs were near.  Is Obama the dog ruining Harriot Tubman's dream?

The speech seemed forced.  It was  the minimum she needed to do to not be accused of sabotaging Obama's campaign.

I don't disagree, too bad the american people will too easily confuse the simple concept of equal resumes, equal pay (if there wasn't) with the situation you described above...pretty hard to put in an easy to remember/understand soundbite.

I stopped watching MSNBC last night after about 5 minutes of grainy, boring coverage. CNN has the best coverage. It was their decision also to expand convention coverage for both parties this year-- the other networks were planning to cut back.

Hillary said very little about Obama on a personal level. He was just a fungible democrat. Jfern   or MSU or Eraserhead would have sufficed equally.

Fox is trying to spin it like she didn't do enough in the speech. I don't get that. But then again all of their analysts are Republicans...

She said he built his campaign on the premise that change happens from the bottom up. That was a hat tip to him, IMO.

^^^

I didn't realize how good she could be. People here are way over analyzing the speech. You really have to go with your gut emotion the figure out what the common (non-politico) folk think. It felt like final closure to me and probably to most Hillary supporters and a feeling of "if you vote for McCain, you're disrespecting me" in it as well. It should work for most Hillary supporters.
