I think we're jumping the gun on this. There is one Republican source out there saying that Palin is the nominee. Palin is in Alaska right now, and is attending the state fair in Anchorage. McCain is in Ohio, ready to make his announcement two hours from now. It takes maybe ten hours to fly from Alaska to Ohio. Maybe it's true, but it seems... highly unlikely, despite the leak.

(As far as Intrade is concerned, though, foreseeing the rumor would have made you oodles of money.)

Link for those seeing the "mystery Alaska plane in Dayton" story:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/08/mccain-vp-conte.html

this remains surreal

Yeah, "backstage sources" would never spread misinformation.

My sources tell me it's Brownback.

No, wait, Gingrich!

Quick, go buy Gingrich on Intrade! I'll send a cryptic e-mail to the AP claiming to be a McCain staffer!

It is true that the McCain campaign has never said on the record that the running mate would be appearing there with McCain.  I suppose it's possible that McCain would make the announcement without the person in question physically being there.....a la John Kerry in 2004.

I frankly didn't know that the old man could be this wily. But then again, he grew up during the Cold War.

My respect for him has increased 1/2 point.

Maybe they'll try to show how hip John McCain is by having her broadcast into Dayton through the tubes.
