This Bush/Cuomo scenario in 1988 has been done before many times before, but it has been a long time since its been done, so you know what it means. Time for another thread regarding this scenario!

How would the 1988 Presidential Election turn out, if these were the tickets?

Republican
Vice President George H.W. Bush of Texas
Senator John Danforth of Missouri

Democratic
Governor Mario Cuomo of New York
Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas

In the words of the infamous Garrison Porter, discuss this 1988 Bush/Coumo scenario with everybody's favourite Electoral College maps Grin

In the end, Bush still wins although the result is slightly closer. Cuomo is painted, just like Dukakis, by the Bush campaign as a left-wing liberal, soft on crime, etc. Cuomo is a better campaigner than Dukakis and is able to pick up blue-collar worker votes in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Illinois. Cuomo loses Michigan barely. Bush is able to maintain California, thanks to Reagan's last minute campaigning in the state. Both Danforth and Bentsen are excellent VEEP picks but do not add any additional states to either ticket.

Bush/Danforth: 367 EV (52% PV)
Cuomo/Bentsen: 171 EV  (47% PV)
