This poll was already started by me a while back, hehe.

I would agree with BRTD's position. Smoking is healther than fascism, but smoking bans in restauraunts aren't fascism. I think that anyone who wants to patronize a restauraunt should have the right not to have to breathe second hand smoke.

Stay home if you don't like it.

I don't smoke but I always hang out where the smokers do - smoking places are invariably much cooler than nonsmoking.

Alas because of anti-smoking fascism, we'll soon be losing all that.

If a restaurant or bar wants to ban smoking they should be able to. It's their right surely? On their property they should be able to do whatever they like.
That said, I'm against banning smoking in the street or in parks etc. That IS a bit fascist! It's infringing the right of the smoker to kill themselves Smiley

Let me clarify something - this is not what I'm against. If the restaruant owner wishes not to allow smoking, that's their right. What I'm against is GOVERNMENT bans on smoking in restaraunts - they both violate private property rights of business owners and decrease the business of those restaraunts, sometimes unemploying workers of those establishments.

Remember, you have every right to boycott restaraunts that allow smoking, just as smokers have the right to boycott restaraunts that don't allow it. I say keep the government out of it and leave the choices up to individuals.

Sorry John, I misinterpreted. Yes, I agree. Government shouldn't be able to force restaurants to ban smoking, that's outrageous. It's up to the owners. On public transport however there is a safety aspect, therefore it should be banned.

There's this dandy little thing in restaurants called the NON SMOKING SECTION. Sit there if you don't like it.

As far as bars go, bars are supposed to be designated areas for light substance abuse. Chances are if there's people there willing to down a few beers and some shots then most of them will want to light up as well. If you can't take a little cigarette smoke, then the bar's not your scene.

Maybe these secondhand smoke nazis just get a rush out of meddling in other people's business.

Smoke wafts.

I wouldn't mind if restaurants constructed a totally seperated smoking section.

True, but it is separated enough so that very little smoke makes its way over there. I don't mind inhaling a puff or two of cigarette smoke while I'm dining.

My sister is pregnant.  She does.

I have a friend who has a near instant asthma attack if he gets a whiff or two.  He minds.

Its a health issue, not just an odor matter.

Anyway, I side with property rights on this one.  If someone doesn't want to go to a dirty, smoke-filled bar, then go to a non-smoking bar.
