The first Ohio Poll conducted with likely voters in the fall 2008 presidential election finds U.S. Sen. John McCain holds a slight lead over U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, 48 percent to 44 percent.
However, nearly a quarter of Ohio's likely voters have not yet made a definite choice, according to the latest Ohio Poll, conducted by the Institute for Policy Research at the University of Cincinnati. The poll was conducted from Sept. 5 through Sept. 10.
A total of 775 likely voters were interviewed by phone. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
The Ohio Poll's findings are opposite from those of the latest Quinnipiac University poll — released Thursday — that shows Obama leads McCain 49 percent to 44 percent among likely Ohio voters.
The Quinnipiac poll was conducted from Sept. 5 through Sept. 9. A total of 1,367 likely voters were interviewed by phone. The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
In the Ohio Poll, Northwest Ohio is the only region of the state in which Obama leads. There, Obama is ahead of McCain, 47 to 41 percent.
In Northeast Ohio, McCain leads 48 to 44 perecent.
McCain holds the biggest lead in Southeast Ohio, where he is ahead 52 to 40 percent.
