Possibly

I still call on Lewis to not waste the senate's time with this bill.  It has at least 4 confirmed votes against

I find it curious though that Torie voted against the motion to table.

He opposes it, but believes it's worth debating. Or so I gather.

The truth is that I made a mistake in my vote. Confession is good for the soul.

To be honest, I'm pretty hesitant about this bill but I will be voting aye because I think the public should have their say.

So, Bacon, you want to write something up to make all seats elected at the same time?

It doesn't seem like there is much room for compromise, is there?

The obvious compromise (half regional, half at-large) is already in effect. So I guess you're right, there isn't a lot of room for it.

I've got to agree with DWTL. A compromise was worked out months ago. A good compromise, I might add.

No, my questions were merely out of curiousity, and I got the answers I wanted.

That was hardly a compromise - it was a first step, and it was fought tooth and claw by some. I guess there's some people who voted for it as a compromise, though.

I supported the end of districts wholeheartedly, but I cannot allow the end of regional senate seats to happen.

It would basically strike a death blow to regions. And it would make the game less fun. If this happens, soon enough regions will cease to exist entirely, and someone here is going to concoct an at-large "Council of Governors" or something. The current system just isn't broken. If we had badly contested elections last time, it has a chance of picking up in the next cycle. For Example, everyone wrote the Southeast off as dead, but then it suddenly got moving again (and tried to secede).

And regional elections are usually boring.

That said, a Council of Governors, consisting of all 5 Governors, could do wonders if given some power.

A council of governors to make mischief, and increase tension between the regions and the Fed seems to have some promise. A structure to make it work, and increase lawsuits, etc, needs to have some thought.

They would need some power to cause mischief indeed. Maybe if a majority of Governors choose to do so, they can veto a bill without allowing for an override?

The more I think about it, the more I like a Council of Governors as an upper house, similar to the old Reichsrat. Members of either house would be able to propose legislation, but it would proceed through the Senate first, and the Council would only be able to veto legislation. The veto could be overriden by a two-thirds majority in the Senate.
