CNN's poll has it at

51% Biden
36% Palin

Did the candidate do better, worse, or about the same as you expected?

Biden did better 64% better,  14% worse, 20% same
Palin did 84% better, 7% worse, 8% same

I'm not surprised with the outcome of the debate and I've yet to watch it. However I am surprised that Governor Palin performed much better than expected and Joe Biden managed to restrain himself. Who would have thought that would ever happen? I know I certainly didn't.

Biden did come off as angry a few times. But then again he is an angry person.

CNN was debate watchers

So, if I were a hack, I could say that Palin only did 12 points better in the CNN poll because of a landslide win with viewers who are not undecided--which confirms the pundit points of "she re-ignited her base with this performance but didn't really do much with swing voters."

I thought both debates were ties, but the voters have spoken.

Lets wait for the tracking polls and national polls within a few days. Lets not just base conclusions on CBS and CNN calling people during the debate.

It's a VP debate. I doubt it has any effect on the tracking polls, especially in the event of no gaffes.

It's just a Faux News cell phone poll. I believe McCain won his debate 90-10.

The CNN poll was actually 51-36. Not 38.

Somewhere else said 39, but yes, 36 is the correct number.

Biden's numbers are slightly better than Obama's numbers from the first debate. I guess voters don't care much for the BS expectations game.

I think CNN said that 78% said that Palin did better than expected.

Both candidates exceeded expectations — 84 percent of the people polled said Palin did a better job than they expected, while 64 percent said Biden also exceeded expectations.

But on the question of the candidates' qualifications to assume the presidency, 87 percent of the people polled said Biden is qualified while only 42 percent said Palin is qualified.

Biden's running mate, Sen. Barack Obama, was also selected as a winner in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation about the presidential debate last week.

Both candidates exceeded expectations?

In other words, it was probably a good debate. Smiley
