For most of the campaign OH seemed much more competitive for Obama than FL. The older age FL demographics were working against him. But in the last few weeks FL has jumped past OH and seems more like Obama country. Is this a short term thing or has there been a switch?

The housing crisis has been especially bad in FL and retirees may be getting more worried over their savings and investments. But it may flip back.

Of course he only needs to win one of them and he is pretty much guaranteed to be president.

Floridians are more followers of fashion, while Ohioans are more contrarian (I mean look at them, they stayed in Ohio).

Florida for few reasons in my eyes:

1) Lots of seniors who live on fixed income hearing that McCain wants to privatize social security when the market is crap
2) Lots of seniors are depending on 401k's and the sort and naturally the preferred choice is a person who they feel is better for the economy, which as shown in the polling is overwhelmingly Obama.
3) Overwhelmingly more Jews in Florida than in Ohio (Jews are mostly democratic).
4) I'm still not convinced that Ohio is safely in Obama's column yet.

I said OH, but it's really a coin flip.  FL has been stronger Obama this year, but not historically.

In 2004 OH was stronger for the DEMS (-2.10 vs -5.01)
In 2000 FL was stronger for the DEMS (-0.01 vs -3.51)

Hmm, didn't realize that, though I guess I should have know it.

Still, coin flip.

I just don't know anymore, but I think Obama will probably win both of them.
