If I had to guess today, I'd say California, Colorado, Delaware, Hawai'i, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, Oregon, Virginia and Washington state.  Indiana and North Carolina, if losing by a smaller margin counts as an increase in "winning margin."

california
delaware
illinois
maryland
new jersey
oregon

I only counted states where Clinton won and Obama will win by more.

Obviously states where Clinton lost and Obama wins are examples as well.(possibly including va, in, nc and co)

*if* obama loses va and nc, he *could* perform worse than clinton did in those two states in 1996.

in 96 clinton won 47.5% of the two-party vote in nc and 48.9% in va.

what are you babbling about?  how does this relate to anything in this thread?

If you are suggesting that I had dismissed that possibility, I had not.  I had not addressed the issue.

everyone assumes that obama will improve upon clinton's margin in va and nc even if he loses.  im simply pointing out that isnt a sure thing.

I realize that. I was thinking according to what Alcon said.

Indiana and North Carolina, if losing by a smaller margin counts as an increase in "winning margin."

Margin of victory... how much more he won a state by compared to Clinton.

I don't think Obama's particularily bummed about Montana since Bill only won in the high 30%. Tongue And he did worse in Nebraska? The western part of the state must've really rejected him.

The states quoted below were states where both Obama and Clinton both lost but Obama lost by less.

Ooh, I misread... I thought he lost them by more. Still, I stand by my belief that Clinton probably won more in western Nebraska. Smiley

No surprises here. Obama did much better among college educated whites, aka ''Latte Liberals'', while Clinton did better with the bubba crowd.

I'm kind of surprised that Clinton lost by a smaller amount in Utah and Idaho

Perot was still sucking away 10% of the vote, mainly among Libertarians, this reduced the margin from 25% to 15%... Obama lost by 20%
